Best western Washington public lands to hunt?
« on: October 14, 2013, 05:19:48 PM »
Ok so I'm new to Washington and am an avid hunter.  I am in the military but do not wish to hunt ft Lewis.  I am looking for some good public or private lands to hunt.  The game I am interested in hunting is bear, cougar, elk and deer any help would be awesome.  Thanks in advance.

DNR land on the western side of the Olympic Peninsula, west of the National Park.
Nature. It's cheaper than therapy.

head out to belfair and get on old belfair highway. take a left onto bear creek dewatto road and there are orange and white gates on both sides of the road out there. the left side of the road is the mason unit and the left side is the kitsap unit.

thanks for your service and best of luck in your hunting

The key is to get off the roads, there are alot of road hunters around, and most of them don't get off the roads very far into the woods. Go in as far as you are comfortable, the further the better, and you will see more game and have less competition.

Oh, and as far as hunting on Ft. Lewis, there are some huge ass blacktails out there. Don't know what the process is to get to hunt there, but it might be worth looking into.

I was told once the tarboo area and around quilicene is crawlin with bears and cougars. In fact the guy said he wouldnt bowhunt either place without a sidearm. Also maybe check out the lake wynoochee area.
